Splurge or Save on Your Wedding
Having a budget for your wedding is a real thing. And the need to stay within your budget is even realer. So how do you decide when to splurge and when to save? Let’s consider a couple aspects of your wedding:
Entertainment. Splurge. Most couples want to create a party atmosphere after dinner, and the best way to achieve this (in my opinion) is a live band. A DJ will suffice for your entertainment, but if you want to blow your guests away and create an amazing party-dancing atmosphere, contract a band.
Photography. Splurge. When the day is over, all you have left are the photographs. Spend money on your photographer! And do your research. There are a lot of amazing photographers out there, but you want to ensure that your photographer is not only suited to your style, but also specializes in weddings. A wedding photographer will take shots that a lot of others might over look. There is no worse feeling than being upset with your wedding photos – there are no re-dos.
Florals. Save. Don’t go overboard with the florals. Yes, they are beautiful, but you will spend a fortune creating a dramatic floral look that you are only going to enjoy for 4-5 hours. Rather look into greenery (moss, succulents, etc.) and candles. You can create a dramatic centerpiece for much less, and a lot of them are reusable.
Lighting & Drapery. Splurge. Spend your money in the air. This is typically a less expensive route to create the ambiance that you want, especially if you chose a blank canvas venue. Also, if you spend money on the lighting, you will probably need less florals (again, save your money!).

Launching our 2016 Winter Menu
Just in time for the cooler weather, we have released all new menus now available in the restaurant as well as in the music and event venue. Created by Executive Chef Garrett Pittler, the new menus highlight seasonal ingredients and classic cold weather comfort food. “As the temperatures drop, people begin craving warmer, heartier dishes, so we’ve incorporated many of the typical winter combinations you’re used to eating during the winter months, along with a few seasonal surprises,” says Pittler. “With these new menus, we also still keep a focus on shareable dishes and smaller plates influenced by the culinary traditions of the wine regions where many of our grapes are sourced from.”
The music and event venue menu highlights include small plates such as Duck Confit Tacos made with a cilantro slaw on house-made tortillas; Southern Burrata, a unique take on a traditional burrata with pimento cheese; and Pinot Noir Caramelized Pork Belly. New larger plates include Pork and Porcini Meatballs over squid ink tagliatelle and pork belly served Carbonara style, and Pittler’s own City Winery Ratatouille. Diners in the restaurant can expect similar items with several additional entrees such as Peruvian Purple Potato Gnocchi with beet hash, walnuts and sage brown butter; Pan Seated Halibut over red quinoa risotto; and Chicken Cacciatore served with wild mushrooms and mashed potatoes. Dessert includes sweet options like Nutella Pizza, Bacon Bourbon Cashew Cracker Jacks and a daily selection of Nitro Ice Cream.
The City Winery weekend brunch menu was also revamped to reflect the change of season. Hungry brunchers can choose from morning classics such as House-Made Biscuits and Blueberry Corn Muffins, along with a Shaved Chicken Calzonette, Black Hawk Farm Burger, Frosted Flakes Pain Perdu and the City Winery Benedict.
